A fascinating free new exhibition – part of a year-long series of events - opens in Edinburgh aiming to establish Charles Piazzi Smyth’s place in Edinburgh’s history.

The exhibition, housed in Edinburgh’s iconic Nelson Monument, presents Piazzi Smyth’s photography, paintings and drawings, alongside a newly commissioned short film and interviews in what will be the first major exhibition in Edinburgh dedicated to the forgotten astronomer.  Article here: https://edin.ac/2vO00t6

Bodyscape is a sci-art co-creation event for artists, researchers and people with a lived experience of disease to engage in conversation. The event aims to bring artists, researchers, and people who have experience of long-term health conditions (patients or friends/families/carers) together to chat with each other and explore current insights into health and research. Then everyone will have the chance to get creative, making art in response to the conversations or your own experiences of disease.

Anxiety is such a pervasive human condition that we sometimes take its presence for granted unless it interferes with our daily lives, which for many of us can be an all too familiar reality.

But is there a different way of looking at this? Would we get rid of all anxiety tomorrow if we could?,

Or are there good things about it we would keep? How high or low would we want our anxiety to be? And what is it about the world that triggers our anxiety?

Science fiction authors will present their latest short tales to be published in Scotland in Space this autumn by Shoreline of Infinity. These authors will offer short readings of their stories and discuss the questions these pose on the social implications of Scottish space exploration and offer meaningful pointers to how the country can explore space in an inclusive and non-exploitative manner. The seminar will also include short talks by academics who have written accompanying essays which offer background scientific, social and literary information to the science fictional tales.

Discover the concrete utopia of a civic educational sanctuary. In the academic world of busy 'think tanks', take a break around the wood burner of this decelerated 'dream tank'! Final of three Festival Welcome Hut days: Experiential seminar. We invite you to an experience of the Welcome Hut in the Moray House Quad where the tiny house is permanently based.
